About Us

Saturday, November 22, 1997, my mother called and asked me what I wanted for Christmas.
My immediate reply was, "Mom, I am 36 years old, somewhat successful in my career. I don't need anything for Christmas." Her reply was simple she wanted to get me something for Christmas as she had for the past 35 years. I told her my hair was starting to fall out, and the best thing for me would be a slumber cap at night to keep my head warm. She thought this was an excellent idea and proposed calling L.L. Bean, her favorite store, and ordering me a nice cap from there. My response was I wanted something more like the slumber cap from the picture book the night before Christmas. She replied she had no idea where in the world she could find such a thing. My response was, "Mom, this is easy. We hang up the phone (those were the dial-up modem days), log into the internet, and go to www.baldmen.com; they will have what I am looking for." She replied she had no idea how to do this, and I responded, get dad to help you. She said, "tell you what, you go on the internet, you go to baldmen.com, you buy the cap, and I will reimburse you for the slumber cap. I agreed, and we hung up the phone.
I immediately logged into the internet and typed baldmen.com in the browser, and nothing came up. Perplexed, I started digging; eventually, I determined no one had registered the site.

It's now Sunday night. Frustrated, I went to bed worrying all night that someone would register the domain before I could get to work and have Sally do the leg work.

Monday morning, I walked into the office, marched up to my administrative assistant, and said "Sally, I don't care what you do today. But before you go home tonight, you need to figure out how to get baldmen.com registered for me." Around lunchtime, she called me on my work cell phone and declared, "we own it."

We set up a simple store and started selling Hot Head Spray-on sunscreen and a few other items. We were number one in search engines, and life got in the way.

In 2001 I decided to lay down the dream of an online store until I turned 60 and might have more time to work on the store.

On July 1, 2022, at age 60, baldmen.com was reborn.
Now it's time for me to get to work and start building out the dream of almost 30 years ago.

Please keep checking in as we build the new store and slowly add items.
Thanks for stopping by.
